Vijay read to step up in politics

Driven up the wall by the theatre owners dem-anding huge compensation for the poor gates for his son Vijay’s latest flick Sura, producer-director S.A. Chandrasekar has now come up with his favourite googly, that his Ilaya Thalapathi is all set to burst onto the political stage and don the crown at Fort St George, or the Omanthurar complex, or wherever else the seat of administration might be by the time that celluloid dre-am wakes up to reality through a string of Kollywood duets.

"Nothing can stop Vijay from jumping into politics. He has already laid a strong foundation for that. His fans clubs have been doing great work across Tamil Nadu. I am eternally grateful to God for giving me Vijay as son," declared the proud papa during a media event at Tiruchy when he released the songs for his under-production movie Veluththukattu. It had been the practice for the duo to drop loud hints about Vijay donning political grease to pep up the fan morale and gain some pre-release publicity whenever a film neared completion.

SAC, as he is popularly known in Kollywood, does not think much of the Sura slip. "People love Vijay’s movies and because of his, Vijay’s popularity is climbing every day. He is only waiting for the right mom-ent to enter politics," said the father, who is widely be-lieved to control simpleton Vijay’s tinsel life and strategise their political dreams. Taking a hard line against the exhibitors demanding that Vijay pay up for their Sura losses, SAC said producers should focus on having a good script to impress the audience rather than depend entirely on the hero. "I concentrate on the script always and try to deliver some message to the people in each of my films," he sermonised.
