Manirathnam’s “Raavanan’ could complete first week. Being a modernized adaptation of the Indian epic Ramayana, some of the staunch supporters of the religion have strongly opposed Mani for having depicted the fictionalized Ram with gray shades. But the producers are whooping with ealtion for a record-breaking box office collection of Rs.20Crores, right on the first day. Moreover, the film’s satellite version sold for Rs.5 Crores has astonished the city as none of the previous films came with so expensive a tag.
Meanwhile, Manirathnam has decided to kick-start his next untitled Hindi film. With Ranbir Kapoor in the lead, the rest of the star-cast would be finalized shortly. Unlike his magnum opus “Raavanan’, this will be completely shot in the cosmopolitan cities with a major portion being filmed in London. Previously Manirathnam had planned to make the film a bilingual with Silambarasan donning the lead role.
For unknown reasons, he will not be filming the Tamil version. Veteran cinematographer P.C. Sriram and music director, A.R. Rahman have been signed for this film.
